There were 32 contestants in the first season, 40 in seasons eighteen through twenty, twenty-three, and twenty-five, 48 in seasons two, four through seventeen, twenty-one, twenty-seven, and twenty-eight, 56 in seasons twenty-two, twenty-four, and twenty-six, and 64 in season three. In season twenty-nine, there were 30 artists.
