Sharon Owens is an American politician who is the 55th Mayor of Syracuse, New York. She is the first Black mayor of Syracuse. Owens assumed on January 1, 2026. She previously served as Syracuse's Deputy Mayor under Ben Walsh. Incumbent mayor Ben Walsh was term limited and was not able to run for re-election to a third term in office, and endorsed Owens in the 2025 election. A Democratic primary was held on June 24. Owens won the nomination, receiving 62% of the vote. Syracuse Common Councilor Pat Hogan received 23%, and Syracuse Common Councilor Chol Majok received 15%. She won the 2025 Syracuse Mayoral Election in a landslide election, winning by 74% of the vote, defeating Republican Thomas Babilon, Independent Alfonso Davis, and Independent Tim Rudd.
